Pastor Letter 1/26/2017

Hello Hope!

I have to say WOW!! This past Sunday evening was incredibly moving and inspiring. I want to again say ‘thank you’ to all of the leaders and participants for sharing their gifts in slides-001celebration of our 40th Anniversary. I specifically want to say ‘thank you’ to Chris Childers our W.M.M.A for designing the Celebration (music, readers, video recording and editing, etc). THANK YOU CHRIS! Also I want to say ‘thank you’ to Stephanie Herrle for being the point person for the celebration not just for Sunday Night but also for the events and visits throughout the year. THANK YOU!

Though I have ‘known’ the story of Hope since I began the call process roughly three years ago, hearing the stories from those who were there was, as I already wrote, was both
moving and inspiring. I am honored to be a part of this congregation who acts boldly in faith following
the work of the Spirit. Yes…this is what communities of faith ‘should’ do all of the time, but the reality is that often we act in protection of what we already have rather than risk for the sake of God’s mission for the worl. This church hasn’t lost its bold and faithful IMG_3663.JPGcharacter as clearly seen in the huge turnout and affirmative vote for the mission God is calling us to in South Lyon. Wow!
Again…THANK YOU and don’t forget to continue putting your pictures and memories on the Ministry Memory Wall in the hallway! (THANKS TO THOSE WHO DESIGNED AND WORKED TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN AS WELL)

On another positive note I am thrilled to lift up another HUGE THANK YOU to all who participated in and supported God’s work through Hope Lutheran Church. We have a bit of financial work to do before we can get you ‘year end’ numbers, however I can report to you our collective efforts of financial giving in the month of December. We asked you (as we have done for many years) for a 13th month of giving, effectively asking you to give double in the month of December. Your response was AMAZING!!!

Your total giving for the month of December was $112,000!!! WOW!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Again…we don’t entirely know what that means for the year-end bottom line, but that kind of giving in December certainly helps immensely. THANK YOU!!!

SOUP-er Bowl!

Ok…so Super Bowl Sunday is February 5th. We are holding our annual Super Bowl Party with a twist this year. Here are the details:

When: Sunday, February 5th

Time: Kick Off @ 6:30pmWhere: Hope Lutheran Family Center (Gym) on a HUGE Screen

What To Bring: Food to share with everyone and your own drink (beer and wine are ok)

Cost: 5 cans of soup per-person

So yeah…that is the catch this year. Instead of Super Bowl…we are now holding the SOUP-er Bowl. Bring soup for those in need. We will get it to the local food shelf.

I think that is all for today… if you have time, check out Susanna’s “40th Anniversary Daily Devotionals” (CLICK HERE) and start training for the Detroit Marathon so you can run with me! (more information on that coming next week)

God Bless!!!
